It’s Wednesday everyone! We are halfway through the week and I hope it has been a great one for all of you thus far.
I wanted to talk about golden milk 🙂 Have you ever hear of it? If you have, I am sure that you have heard of all the wonderful benefits you get from it and if not, let me tell you about it!
Golden milk or aka tumeric tea is basically milk, tumeric and other warm spices blended together and heated.. sound yummy right? it really is!
What is tumeric? Tumeric is a root that comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant. Traditionally used in Chinese and Indian folk medicine,as a powerful anti-inflammatory and antiseptic.
I try to drink golden milk every night before bed as something to sip on while Perry and I are starting to wind down for the night. I have also made it after dinner as a bit of a treat if I am feeling like I need something sweet.
Now here is the thing, tumeric on it own is not sweet at all, but once its all mixed in with other spices and honey it has that warm spice taste,like Christmas in a cup.
The reason I like to drink this stuff regularly is because of all the health benefits, plus its tasty! I mean but the health benefits……. you cant got wrong!
1)Protect the liver oxidative stress.
2)Kill fungus more effectively than ginger, clove and oregan- this was big for me to learn as ginger and oregan was always a go to for me.. not not as much.
3)Induce tumor cell death in the deepest parts of individual cells.
4)Kills cancer cells.
5)Lower blood cholesterol levels
6)Protect against cognitive/memory defects from heavy ion irradiation. – Seeing my grandfather suffer with dementia is reasons alone to drink this stuff on a regular.
7)Helps with you skin and aging- it’s a natural anti-inflammatory so it reduces redness or other skin irritations as well as anibactiral so its great for blemishes and acne.
There really are many more benefits, you can always go and google tumeric and you will get lots of information about it!
Below is the Golden Milk recipe that I like best. There are lots of different versions so if this isn’t your cup of tea (literally) you can always search around for another recipes.
Golden Milk Recipe
- 2 cups of coconut or almond or regular milk – I like to use either coconut or almond milk
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric
- ½ teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup or to taste – I use an unpasteurized honey
- Pinch of black pepper (increases absorption)
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
- Tiny piece of fresh, peeled ginger root or ¼ tsp ginger powder
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional but it adds a nice little kick to the drink)
- Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
- Pour into a small sauce pan and heat for 3-5 minutes over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
- Drink immediately
